It is perhaps the most attractive and complete hiking route of the many which may be followed via the Sóller valley and throughout the Serra de Tramuntana. The impressive popular architecture which we pass along zigzagging kilometres of cobbled path and which leads us into a unique scenario of crags, cliffs and stone slopes reveal to us an authentic monument of humanity, demonstrating that the union of nature with the work of man does not always have to be destructive. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (ACI) in 1984.

The washing places of Biniaraix, a village near Sóller and which we will access by way of S’Alqueria des Compte, is our point of departure. It is there that the Monnáber road commences (on the left) and the Es Barranc path on the right. We start off via a cart track which, amongst olive groves, gradually becomes a bridle path until crossing for the first time the stream of l’Ofre or of Des Barranc. From here we start to enter its marvellous, spectacular surroundings where we leave behind on the right the old Es Barranc path and we can get refreshment (we can also do so slightly further up at the Fountain of Es Verger).

We arrive at the enclave of S’Estret where the rocky slopes come closer until just leaving a small pass where stream and path meet. We again cross this stream via a stone bridge and we continue our ascent amongst olive groves.

The path is still winding, leaving behind a wooden bridge and several estates; after a short break, the path again begins to ascend on numerous bends and again meets up with the old path.

We leave behind places such as the great stalactite of Sa Campana, the caves of D’en Mena and the waterfall of Es Cans and the route again becomes flatter until entering the l’Ofre estatevia a wall. We are now on our way to Coll del l’Ofre. On bright days from this pass the view is unique. We keep going down via the bridle path on the left which, after passing the nearby houses of Binimorat, takes us smoothly to the dam of the Cúber reservoir; after going round it on the right, and in the vicinity of the fountain of Es Noguer, there is a recreational area.

There is also the possibility of making an interesting variant to this excursion by going up to the vantage point of Es Cornadors, alongside the former shelter of Xim Quesada. The views afforded of Sóller from this spot are simply exceptional.

consejos
This is a route which is very steep. If you wish to make this excursion gentler, you are recommended to make it in the opposite direction, becoming an almost totally downhill path. So you are recommended to the Des Noguer Fountain on the Sóller-Lluc bus. The Es Cornadors variant may make this trek an hour and a half longer.
